Snug As A Bug

Pearl has this new habit of burrowing into blankets. If we let her into our bed in the morning she likes to go all the way under the covers with only her feet sticking out. I often get worried that she is going to suffocate. I mean, seriously, how can she breath with her head swaddled in blankets? Even if there is not a big enough blanket around to burrow completely under, she takes advantage of whatever amount of blanket is available:

Pearl's new favorite way to sleep

I feel like I should get her one of these to snuggle up in (if I didn’t think she would destroy it in a day):

Does anyone else’s dog like to burrow?

About Pearl the Puppy

Pearl is just over 40 lbs of energy mixed with a pinch of crazy. We adopted her in March 2011 from a St. Louis rescue organization called Impact for Animals (now Pet Rescue Network). We are unsure about her age, but we are guessing she was born in Fall 2010. Her background is anybody's guess, but we are pretty sure that she has at least some sighthound in her. She's a whole lot of trouble but a whole lot of fun.

  1. Haha, so cute! That’s really funny that she only lets her feet hang out.

Elli doesn’t burrow. She absolutely MUST always be touching me though when we’re even remotely relaxing together. If I try to reorient so that she’s not touching me, she corrects her position so that she’s leaning into my body. Always. Like a little magnet.

She also looooves to mouth and chase my hand when I move it underneath the blankets. It gets her *extremely* excited and all prey-driven. 🙂

  2. Luna does! I had my robe on the other morning and I guess she thought it was a blanket, and she kept pawing me to share it with her like she does a blanket. Silly girl. I have thought about getting one of the Cozy Cave dog beds by Snoozer… okay we ARE getting one for her at some point just not sure when. I know she would love it, and then I wouldn’t have to be covering her up all the time, she has me so well trained that when I pass by her I will cover her with something if she is not already covered. She is never too hot or tight either, one weird pup. Enjoy it, I love that about Luna.

  3. I found Faegan INSIDE a quilt in her crate yesterday morning… she had made a little hole in the quilt, pulled out the stuffing, and somehow managed to crawl through the tiny hole between the two layers. It was a bit of a challenge to get her out, but so cute and cozy!

  4. In our house, the cats are into hiding in blankets and laundry, but the Newfs aren’t interesting in something like that – one dog’s cozy is another’s stuffy and too hot.

  5. After a play session in the evening, Sage usually goes into our bedroom and settles down on the bed (where she sleeps all night with us). I’ve watched her pull the quilts half way down the bed with a couple of quick bumps with her head. Then she settles down on the sheets. No burrowing though…..
